Department of Transport and Mobility

The mobility of Chemnitz students is the main field of activity for the Department for Transport and Mobility. As one of the oldest departments of the student council, it emerged from the "AG Verkehr" (Transport Working Group) in the early 1990s and has been dedicated to enabling affordable mobility for all students from the very beginning. In 1994, a semester ticket for the CVAG public transport routes was introduced for the first time. With the creation of transport associations in Saxony the ticket was extended to Zone 13 of the Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen (VMS). In the 2011 summer semester, the ticket became valid across the entire rail network of Saxony for the first time. Currently there is an annual student ticket valid within the VMS, the Verkehrsverbund Vogtland (VVV), the Verkehrsverbund Oberlausitz-Niederschlesien (ZVON), and throughout the entire local rail network of Saxony. All important information regarding the ticket can be found HERE.

The Department for Transport and Mobility also contributed to the cycling concept of the City of Chemnitz which is currently being implemented. Our main focus was on the cycle path connections between the various university sites and the provision of bicycle parking facilities at these locations.

The Department for Transport and Mobility makes an effort to get a significant influence on the development of public transport in Chemnitz. For instance we work alongside transport companies to determine the timetables for the routes connecting the university sites. The construction of the new tram line along Reichenhainer Straße was also moved up from the bottom of the priority list in the Chemnitz Model to second place, partly thanks to the intervention of the Transport Department, and will therefore be implemented in the coming years. We also represent Chemnitz students on the CVAG Passenger Advisory Board.

To assess the mobility needs and social circumstances of Chemnitz students on a regular basis, we conduct large-scale surveys among the students. The most recent survey of this kind took place in 2017. You can view the results HERE.

Otherwise we handle all concerns regarding student mobility and are available to provide advice and practical support in this area.
