Chemnitzer StudentenNetz (Students’ Network of Chemnitz)

Internet access is a basic need of every student nowadays, which is why students in the dormitories of the Studentenwerk have been involved with the Chemnitzer StudentenNetz (CSN) since 1994. Originally intended as an initiative enabling students to connect their computers to the campus network at the Chemnitz University of Technology, the CSN has become the second oldest student network in Germany and now supports around 2000 users. The network is operated exclusively by volunteers and provides an inexpensive and modern connection to the network on the campus. Thanks to a close cooperation with the university, all services offered by the URZ can also be used within the CSN.

HOW CAN YOU BENEFIT FROM THE ADVANTAGES OF THE CSN?

It's simple: If you live in one of the dormitories of the Studentenwerk, the CSN fee is already included in your rent! All you need is a valid URZ login code, a PC with an Ethernet port and a matching network cable. Then, fill in a registration form available on our website and you will gain access to the CSN within a short time. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. You can find out where to find them on the CSN website:

https://www.csn.tu-chemnitz.de

Would like to actively shape the CSN by applying your skills or learn something new? Then drop by during our office hours on Tuesdays (from 7:30 to 10 p.m.) to our office on Vettersstraße 72 in room 034! Of course, you can also reach us by mail:

Filmclub “mittendrin”

»mittendrin« – your campus movie theatre

If you feel like watching a good film but don't fancy overpriced tickets and the uniformity of the large cinema chains, the film club "mittendrin" is the right place for you. In a cosy atmosphere, we screen a variety of iconic, hand-picked films, ranging from award-winning independent cinema to blockbusters. As a matter of fact, we were awarded the Mitteldeutsche Kino-Programmpreis in 2013 for our annual programme.

On top of our regular programs, we frequently host special events, for example our monthly Monday documentary feature, the Polish film series, a shorts night, and topical screenings, often in cooperation with student groups. We offer the screenings in the original language (with subtitles) as often as possible. And if you're really looking forward to a movie that is not shown widely, we're always happy to take suggestions!

We are always looking for new members to join our team at the only campus cinema in Germany that we know of. On days without screenings, we meet for staff-only films evenings and in September, we go together to the Film Art Festival in Leipzig, where we watch films that appear in cinemas only months later.

So, if we have aroused your interest, do come visit us soon!

The hard facts:

  • Every Tuesday & Thursday (+ special events)
  • Reichenhainer Straße 35/37 (cellar below the main entrance)
  • Entry from 8:30 p.m., screenings start at 9:00 p.m.
  • Admission: 3,- €.

FPM

You can’t see paying 7 € for a cocktail? Are you annoyed that they never play your music in the club and the themes are old and hackneyed?

Then talk to us! The FPM is the oldest student club on campus, for students and by students. We put a lot of passion into choosing our student-friendly drinks, such as over 50 cocktails for less than 4.50 € and a selection of various (craft) beers and whiskey(s), as well as great themes for our events (LSBTTIQ*, metal, dry ice, XXL cocktails with mugs, Oktoberfest, ...). Of course, we are not only happy to welcome you to our bar, we are also always looking for people who want to let off steam behind the bar, work in the organisation of the club, handle finances or music for events, or deal with technology.

During the semester, our pub is always open on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00 p.m. You can find information about our parties on flyers in the cafeteria or on our Facebook page: https://facebook.com/fpmclub

Where can you find us? At a residence hall on campus, reachable by tram line 2:
FPM Club, Vettersstr. 70/72,
2nd floor Middle building,
09126 Chemnitz

PEB

If you are afraid of heights, then the PEB-Studentenkeller is the right place for you! No one will fall out of the window here, and if you do, you’ll just end up in the beer garden. There are also delicious drinks for a relaxed start to your week every Monday (when the weather is nice). If you get bored at home on Wednesday, you can come back for a laugh and a party in the basement, because we rock. We surprise our guests every week with different specials, such as a karaoke party, cocktail party and much more.

We can also find a place in our large family for people who would be interested in joining it. We have a lot of fun and do a lot together, and we also like to show that we do more than just organise parties. Just get in touch! See you at the PEB!
