Official statement of the student council to the incident of the 7th August 2026
We, the Student Council (StuRa) of Chemnitz University of Technology, acknowledge the public apology issued by the FSR WiWi regarding the incident surrounding the promotion of an event, as well as the immediate removal of the controversial promotional materials.
Nevertheless, as the representatives of the entire student body, it is important to us to make our position on this matter absolutely clear:
We find the wording of the headline and subheading used on the poster unacceptable. The exploitation of an issue of such human rights significance for the sake of a thoughtless pun – regardless of whether it arose from human carelessness or the unreflective use of AI tools – is completely unjustified. Such trivialisation lacks any sense of humour whatsoever.
As the StuRa, we stand for a cosmopolitan campus where diversity is actively embraced, and we take a firm stand against any form of discrimination or its trivialisation.
We welcome the fact that the FSR WiWi is now taking the incident seriously, addressing it internally and adapting its approval processes to ensure that such a mistake does not happen again.
We, too, will use the next few days to continue to examine this issue critically. We take the complaints received from the student body very seriously and will continue to address the incident within the committee in order to create a respectful and non-discriminatory learning environment for everyone.
Your StuRa ♡
